Sinbad The Sailor Visits Belize

They're Here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Representative from Asylum Pictures touched down in Belize to start pre production on a feature film in the beautiful Jewel. Please follow along with us as Belizeans get a chance to see behind the scenes of the process of movie making.
We will follow the day to day of the production as it makes it's way through filming. We will see the good, the bad and the ugly of their experience. Location Scouting: Before our crew got into town we did a little bit of scouting so we would have some specific spots to show them. Location scouting Belizean style can be fun, during our first few days we stopped off at various islands and enjoyed some lobsters from the sweet Caribbean Sea. First Meal: Nerie's Restaurant Queen Street, Belize City. The beer was cold (Belikin) the food was hot and the company was awesome. The Asylum guys were really excited and ready to get going and find new talent in Belize, but first they had to have some rice & Beans and plantains.
Not a bad first night, Film Belize.

My Main Man, J. Pogue

Editor/Producer, Jeff Pogue has been here in Belize working on cutting us a sizzle reel for "The Taste Of Belize" for the past 2 days. We have also been working on 2 other projects for the Belize Film Commission Website & Joey's World Belize. This guy has been doing some wonderful stuff since he has arrived in the country. Jeff has taught me some of the new tricks on Final Cut Pro, and we got a chance to really capture the beauty of Altun Ha and the surrounding area. We plan on getting some jungle footage from Maskall Village and the 9 villages of The Baboon Sanctuary. I got a chance to show him the magic of the little Sony HD Camera, HDR-XR520 our new best friend. He in returned helped me to better understand our Sony EX3.

Well we finally got out of the production office and into the jungle to get some more B Roll footage for our TV show "A Taste of Belize" and some glamor footage for The Belize Film Commission website. We started the day traveling through the 9 villages of The Baboon Sanctuary and stopped to see a troupe of Howler Monkeys in the village of Flowers Bank. Flowers Bank is sleepy little village, which is in the heart of the Belize River Valley. We arrived early Monday morning anticipating to hear the welcome music of the Howler Monkeys, to our surprise there was no music and I was starting to get nervous. Our guide Ruben quickly told us that because of the cold weather the baboons weren't very active but that they would crank up the sound up by mid day. I got a little impatient because we were on a very tight schedule so we ventured deeper into the jungle and that's when we got in trouble, because of the rainy weather the ground was a little soft and we got stuck. Thanks to Jeff and our guide Ruben we were freed in about 30 minutes.

Altun Ha, Maya Ruin

Water Of The Rock, oh how I love the mystical beauty of the ruins at Altun Ha. I have always wanted to use this spot as a location for a movie, hopefully my dream will come through. The power that exist in knowing that there was a specific culture of people here in Belize hundreds of years before us that were so advanced that what they achieved as a group of people withstood the test of time and now we have the privilege of seeing how they lived. Belize is truly a wonderful & magical place. Film Belize and enjoy life.

Belizean Pineapple "Taste Of Belize

Here is another perk to filming in Belize, the hospitality is amazing. Producer, Jeff Pogue of Media Oblingata Productions enjoys some sweet fresh fruit along with the awesome scenery of the Belizean countryside. During Jeff's visit, he was quoted as saying "Belize has the best that nature has to offer". I like to think that we can supply you with the canvas for you to create your masterpiece, as film commissioner of Belize it's my duty to make sure that everyone's filming experience is a positive one. So go ahead Jeff and enjoy that delicious Belizean Pineapple there's plenty more where that came from.

The Crew Enjoys, The Beauty Of Belize

The

The Split on Caye Caulker is a special place, it's the local hot spot on the island. The split allows locals and tourist to interact on the island in a laid back comfortable atmosphere. The cast and crew really enjoyed the island and at the end of the day we all took a breather and enjoyed the view from the top of the Split Bar & Grill.

Chef Keith Jones "Taste Of Belize"

Chef Keith Jones, the host of "Taste Of Belize" shares his culinary experiences with us as he travels through the country of Belize. On this particular day of shooting we catch up with our host as he prepares to embark on a magical journey with Local Tour Guide Ras Creek and Belize's Local Sports legend Clinton "Pulu" Lightburn. This particular tour will take you around the island of Caye Caulker and through the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea. We will see Chef Jones interact with a friendly Sting Ray as he take his first dip in the warm healing waters of Belize. The Cayes are a series of islands off the coast of Belize that are protected by our Barrier Reef. The beauty of Belize and the series of islands that run the coast line is that they are close to the mainland in distance, but miles away in the ambiance that each Caye creates. Every single Caye has a personality and a lifestyle of it's own so you can island hop for the whole day and really get a different Taste of Belize in a short period of time. Travel safely and we hope you enjoy the video. Taste of Belize will be aired on Colours TV during Winter 2010. Colours TV is a Denver based, multi-cultural networked, which is carried on Dish Satellite with a viewing market of about 19 million households.

Ras Creek On A Taste Of Belize

The behind the scene footage from the show was amazing, as we started to edit the hours of footage we found a few gems that we will be sharing. This footage of Ras Creek is pretty good and it gives you a real good feel of what people will experience once they visit Caye Caulker. We plan on going back to capture more of the island and to visit a local hang out called "The Split" and a restaurant called "The WishWilly".

Welcome To Caye Caulker

Ras Creek, the original Rasta was quite entertaining and informative during the tour of Shark & Ray Reserve. Caye Caulker is a beautiful island with a charm and personality of it's own. It seems to be a favorite for filming, we are getting a lot of questions about the island and one of it's most popular inhabitants, Ras Creek. The island reminds me of Venice Beach, California with all the eclectic personalities and interesting architectural structures. The Island is going through a wonderful stage of development with the northern part of the island becoming an attractive option to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The southern part of Caye Caulker which is more developed is very popular with the locals as well as the younger tourist. This island will give you the best of both worlds when all development is completed, something for your high end tourist and something for the bargain hunters. At the end of the day Belize has something for everyone. I have to tell you that our crew really enjoyed our time on Caye Caulker and I look forward to doing many more projects there, some of the crew members took a break and talked about the island and the experiences they had. Two of our crew members were a part of the Belize Film Commission trainee program so this was really special for them to be a part. I was really impressed with how they worked and followed directions from our lead cameraman Steve Roberts, and the professionalism and pride that they carried to the workplace because they were doing something that represented Belize. I hope everyone that sees our show "A Taste Of Belize" really enjoys it, and I hope that in 2010 more local Belizeans learn to really enjoy Belize.
