Thank You 2011! Happy New Years Bring On 2012 & The Belize Film Festival!

Happy New Years, as we close out 2011 and say a fond farewell to the year I would like to take this time to give thanks to all those close to me and to those who have help us here at the Belize Film Commission. This has been a year of many highs and some lows but we have managed to do some noteworthy things over the past 12 months. I would like to thank our glorious Prime Minister, Dean Oliver Barrow and his wife Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow for their support of the Film Commission Office. Thanks to the parent entity, NICH which is headed by Ms. Diane Haylock and her staff. I want to thank all the folks that have chosen Belize as their location for their production, because with out you my office would be obsolete. I want to let the Belizean public know that we have some major things coming on board for 2012 so please keep your eyes and ears open because you'll be hearing a lot more about Belize and all the wonderful films that are being done here in our Jewel. We have big plans for increasing our vendor pool so that when these big Hollywood productions come come they will be able to find every piece of equipment from our local market. We have a phrase that we use in the office "Film Belize". That's the phrase we will propel our industry into new heights throughout 2012 and beyond. The 2012 Belize Film Festival, will be a global event and will present Belize in a positive light.

Rodney Perry To Perform In Belize. July 14th 2011

Rodney Perry & friends are set to open the Belize International Film Festival with a comedy night extravaganza. On Thursday July 14th 2011 at The Bliss Performing Arts Center, Belize City will be the comedy center of the Caribbean. 4 talented comedians led by BET's own Mr. Rodney Perry, of The Monique Show will be in Belize City for 1 night doing 2 shows 7pm & 9pm at The Bliss. The Comedy Show is part of NICH and The Belize Film Festival commitment to bring first rate entertainment to Belizeans. The comedy show is being produced by Breakthrough Stars & Triumphant Pictures which will air the show on US TV at a later date. Breakthrough Star has made a commitment to promote local Belizean talent through a series of contest which will start with a local Belizean Comedian getting their shot at being on stage with Mr. Perry to perform a set of jokes. The comedy show will run for 90 minutes with free giveaways to the live audience in attendance. Get ready Belize for a night full of excitement and laughter. Who Knows, You Might Get Discovered!

"Portals to the Underworld."

The BELIZE FILM COMMISSION and NICH are excited to announce the premiere of GATES OF HELL on the History Channel, Tuesday, August 17, at 8 pm.



According to Courtney Engelstein, Development Producer of Red Marble Media, “ The show looks fantastic, and the segment in Belize is beautiful, compelling, and creepy. Thank you so much for your help in pulling that shoot together. History Channel has just begun airing promos, which we are very happy with as well.”



Red Marble Media filmed in Belize earlier this year for a commissioned two-hour History Channel special originally called "Portals to the Underworld." The documentary charts historical thoughts and beliefs about the afterlife from the ancient Maya to modern Christianity. Producers traveled to places that were once believed to be sacred portals to spiritual realms of which Belize was one and used interviews with experts and artistic depictions of the Underworld from throughout the ages for the project.

As the President of NICH, Ms. Diane Haylock has many responsibilities, she oversees numerous departments within the the body of NICH, which stands for the National Institution of Culture & History. This governmental institution has the enormous task of documenting and preserving the culture of Belize. She also has the role of creating the environment for our budding film industry to grow in Belize. That is were our paths cross, over the past 2 years as Belize's Film Commissioner I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Haylock in bringing awareness of the film industry opportunities to our local Belizeans. I have partnered with some local businessmen and Investors from abroad to assist in building an industry that we could all be proud of. The road has been tough at times but with the support of The Belize Government, Ms. Haylock and the her staff we have made some pretty significant strides. We are now at the crossroads of our 5 year plan and we are very close to locking down our first multi-million dollar project. I wanted to put this blog out there because far too many times we get credit for things that we do and we don't share the credit for what was achieved. In life I've learned that anything that is truly successful has a team element that played a major role in getting it done. I'd like to personally say thank you for your support Ms. Haylock and that the film industry in Belize is truly benefiting from your conscious efforts to see this thing all the way through.The Belize International Film Festival 2010 says thank you as well.
